A little about Yasu

Shiga Prefecture, where Yasu-shi is located, is home to Lake Biwa, as well as a number of famous mountains, allowing visitors to enjoy a variety of activities all year round - from skiing to boating and swimming.

A rich center of culture and history, Shiga has something to appeal to all interests.

It is located in the southwest part of Shiga Prefecture and is home to Mt. Mikami (Ohmi Fuji) and the Yasu River, flowing into Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan.

Yasu has a population of over 50,000 citizens and covers an area of 61.45 square kilometers. Yasu has a long history, dating back over 2,000 years, as a major rice-growing community.

A number of large industries have built factories here in Yasu, contributing to Yasu's growth and development.
